Hospital officials upgraded the condition of Beau James Robertson — the 29-year-old driver of a car that plunged off an overpass onto Highway 101 in Montecito on Sunday — from critical to stable condition today.
Two Bay Area women in the Chevrolet Camaro with Robertson, a 21-year-old and a 26-year old, died at the scene of the accident after being ejected from the car, CHP officials said. Authorities have yet to release their identities.

Police suspect Robertson, a Palo Alto resident, of being under the influence of alcohol when he attempted a high-speed turn onto San Ysidro Road from North Jameson Lane early Sunday morning, CHP Spokesman Don Clotworthy said.
The Camaro crashed through the guardrail and fell to the highway below, where it was hit almost immediately by a Honda Sedan carrying a family of five, Clotworthy said. No one in the Honda received serious injuries, although several of them were taken to Cottage Hospital with cuts and bruises, he added.
Robertson remains in the Intensive Care Unit at Cottage Hospital, authorities said, and faces felony DUI and vehicular manslaughter charges upon his recovery.
