Mutilated dog found on DP campus

A mutilated, partly burned dog was found on a Dos Pueblos High School sports field yesterday morning, leaving school officials, parents and students puzzled and appalled.
Barbara Keyani, a spokeswoman for the Santa Barbara School Districts, said the dog was discovered by a gardener at 7:45 a.m. She said Animal Control couldn’t be reached until 9 a.m. and the dog was removed shortly thereafter.

“It was dead and had been wrapped in a blanket or towel,” Keyani said. “Someone had tried to set it on fire.”
She said school principal Mark Swanitz said the dog appeared to have abrasions that indicated the dog had been hit by an object. She also said the dog was reported to be partially frozen.
Keyani said she did not know the age of the dog or the breed.
Cathy Gregory, whose 15-year-old daughter attends the school, said her daughter told her that someone spray painted “seniors rule” and other comments around the campus.
Keyani could not confirm if the campus had been vandalized with spray paint.
The Dos Pueblos High School football team played last night at St. Bonaventure, but it is unknown if the game could have motivated the slain dog.
Gregory said the dog carcass is extremely troubling.
“It disturbs me because it was at the high school where these kids could see something like that,” Gregory said. “I don’t think there’s any regard for what a young person might see and how it might affect them. It was done at a public school for god sakes, and that’s what bothers me.”

Ms. Gregory, what disturbs ME is that you are more upset that someone did this where teenagers could see it than that someone hit and mutilated a living animal and set it on fire. The one or two people who saw this unspeakably awful act would have one more sad, troubling thing they have seen (as we all have), but that comes NOWHERE CLOSE to the pain and sorrow perpetrated on that dog.

Are you kidding me? Ms. Gregory, I am appalled that what "disturbs" you is not that a living, breathing dog was brutally hit, mutilated and lit onfire but rather the location that the dog's dead body was left in. Any teen that saw this could have it used as an opportunity to see that there are sick, insane people in this world and that humans are responsible for not allowing such indecent acts. I very much hope that they find whomever did this and punish them. If we don't find them, I find some peace in knowing that God will.

What disturbs ME is that there are at least 2 people out there who think they can judge someone on the basis of a single quote in the newspaper.

"The Dos Pueblos High School footbal team played last night a St. Bonaventure, but it is unknown if the game could have motivated the slain dog."

PLEASE, somebody diagram this sentence!

How can you discuss an issue like this with clarity if no one proofreads!
