A man released from a state penitentiary on Wednesday was arrested by Santa Barbara Police hours later on the front porch of a home on Milpas Street and booked into county jail for alleged trespass, resisting arrest and parole violation.
Lt. Paul McCaffrey, a spokesman for the police department, said officers arrested 51-year-old Richard Francis Moore after they received a 911 call reporting that he had broken into a home on the 200 block of Milpas Street.
McCaffrey said the incident began when a couple living at the residence was awoken by their barking dog.
“Suddenly, their door opened and a large intruder dressed in black stepped into their bedroom,” McCaffrey said. “The couple shouted at the suspect to ‘get out, get out.’”
He said the suspect walked out of the bedroom and into the kitchen. The residents followed him, but McCaffrey said they retreated to their bedroom and called 911 when they saw what appeared to be a knife.
When officers arrived, they found Moore sitting on the front porch of the home.
McCaffrey said officers ordered Moore to get on the ground and after repeated attempts of getting him to comply, used a K-9 to subdue the man.
McCaffrey said Moore had a Leatherman tool in his pocket and was treated at Cottage Hospital for minor bite wounds before being booked into County Jail.
