Gang brawl leaves two injured

A brawl between rival gang members on East Carrillo Street involving knives and bats sent two juveniles to the hospital on Saturday afternoon, Santa Barbara police said.
The incident took place at the intersection of Carrillo and Anacapa streets at around 4 p.m., Sgt. Mike McGrew said, and started when several gang members jumped out of a tan or gold SUV and attacked at least two other gang members walking along the street.

“They ended up stabbing one guy multiple times,” Sgt. McGrew said, adding that the other victim had been hit with a baseball bat.
After arriving at the scene of the fight, police tracked the path of the victims as they fled east to a building in the 400 block of East Carrillo Street, he said.
“We followed the blood trail and found them hiding behind there,” Sgt. McGrew said. “…They were bleeding pretty good.”
Both juveniles were taken to Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital for treatment and authorities did not have any information on their condition as of Sunday evening.
Sgt. McGrew said neither victim is cooperating with the police investigation, something he characterized as typical with gang-related incidents.
Police initially responded to reports of shots fired at the location of the brawl, he said, and it is not yet clear if guns were involved in the incident. No suspects have been identified and no arrests have been made.
