Fareed Zakaria, who has been dubbed by Esquire magazine one of the 21 most important people of the 21st century, will speak at Westmont College’s third annual President’s Breakfast on Feb. 25.
Zakaria has been editor of Newsweek International since 2001. He is a political analyst for ABC News and a regular member of the roundtable on “This Week with George Stephanopoulos,” and host of “Foreign Exchange with Fareed Zakaria” on PBS.

According to a statement released by Westmont, one of key purposes of the President’s Breakfast is to “promote discussion and consideration of current issues among local community leaders.”
The author and columnist Thomas Friedman spoke at last year’s breakfast and when asked by Gerd Jordano, chair of the President’s Breakfast steering committee who he thought would be a good speaker for 2008, he suggested Zakaria.
“We were driving back to the airport and I asked Tom whom he would recommend for the next year,” Jordano said. “And he immediately answered that Fareed Zakaria would make a wonderful speaker.”
Zakaria has written several books on varying subjects, which range from terrorism to national security and America’s role in the world. Some of his most recent works include, “Why America Scares the World,” “How to Win the Peace,” and “Why they Hate Us.”
His most recent book, “The Post-American World,” is expected to be released in May.
The President’s Breakfast will be held in the Grand Ballroom at Fess Parker’s DoubleTree Resort. Tickets cost $75 and can be purchased by contacting 565-6895.
