An 18-year-old sustained multiple stab wounds after a group of assailants attacked him near his home in Santa Barbara on Monday evening, authorities said.
The teenage victim told police he had been standing in front of his residence in the 600 block of Kentia Avenue at around 8:45 p.m. when a vehicle approached and four suspects exited, demanding his bicycle and cell phone.
“When the victim tried to leave, that’s when he was subsequently attacked and stabbed,” Santa Barbara police spokesman Sgt. Lorenzo Duarte said.
Authorities said the teenager received treatment for three stab wounds at Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital that were not considered life-threatening.
The suspects left with the victim’s bicycle, but did not take his cell phone, Sgt. Duarte said. He said while the victim cooperated with the police investigation, the 18-year-old could not provide a specific identification or description of the suspects.
“At this point, with the victim’s statement and the investigation thus far, it is not being considered gang-related,” Sgt. Duarte said.
The case has been assigned to the police department’s detective bureau and is being investigated as a robbery and assault with a deadly weapon.
