Emergency crews throughout the South Coast were dispatched yesterday to the waters off of Lookout Point near Summerland, where a 911 caller said a man swam out to his boat, which had broken loose from its anchorage, and had not been seen or heard from since.
Santa Barbara County Fire Capt. Eli Iskow said Carpinteria, Summerland and county water rescue teams searched the water until 9:30 p.m. and a U.S. Coast Guard helicopter continued its search well into the night.
Iskow said the 911 call was made at 6:50 p.m. He said a vehicle found in a nearby parking lot could belong to the missing man, and clothes found on the beach may belong to him as well. Iskow said it is likely the missing man is a local resident.
The search is expected to resume this morning.
