DAILY SOUND STAFF REPORT
A 26-year-old local woman suffered serious injuries after plunging approximately 300 feet off the side of Gibraltar Road in a vehicle early Saturday morning.
Rescue crews responded at 5:06 a.m. and found the injured woman, a Santa Barbara resident, with a severe laceration to her lower leg, along with abdominal and possible head injuries, County Fire Capt. Curt Warner said.
An airlift helicopter transported her to Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital, he said. Another victim, described only as a Santa Barbara resident in his mid-20s, suffered moderate injuries and was taken by ambulance to Cottage Hospital.
A third victim, also a Santa Barbara man in his mid-20s, had managed to climb out of the car and hike back to the roadside with minor injuries by the time rescuers arrived, Capt. Warner said, and was not transported to the hospital.
