A head-on collision on Highway 154 killed one man and sent another to the hospital with moderate injuries on Sunday, in addition to tying up traffic on the winding mountain pass.
Authorities arrived on the scene near Highway 154 and San Marcos Road at approximately 4:10 p.m. to find two sedans had collided, leaving a man trapped in one car with critical injuries.

It took firefighters 15 minutes to extricate the victim with hydraulic rescue equipment, County Fire Capt. Eli Iskow said.
The driver of the other vehicle suffered moderate injuries but did not require extrication. Rescue crews took both victims to Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital.
Hospital officials confirmed one man had been pronounced dead at the hospital.
The other was still being examined in the emergency room as of Sunday evening. No information about their ages or identities was immediately available.
Wreckage blocking lanes in both directions backed up traffic until California Highway Patrol officers began slowly escorting vehicles around the scene, Capt. Iskow said.
