Hwy. 101 roadwork expanding

Workers are beginning to clear vegetation along Highway 101 in preparation for construction near the Cabrillo Boulevard onramp and Sycamore Creek.
Caltrans officials said clearing and preliminary excavation will also take place this week near the southbound bridge over Milpas Street. Two lanes will remain open in both directions during the day, authorities said, while temporary lane and ramp closures may occur between 8:30 p.m. and 7 a.m.

Crews are also preparing to shut down the southbound offramp at Los Patos Way, a closure that could occur as early as next week and last for a year. Drivers should use the Hot Springs Road offramp instead, Caltrans officials said.
A temporary closure of the southbound onramp at Milpas Street is also forthcoming, authorities said, and more information will be available in the coming weeks. More information about upcoming closures can be found at www.sbroads.com on the detours page.
The $53 million project, kicked off several weeks ago when workers began placing safety barriers and restriping lanes between Milpas Street and Hot Springs Road, involves widening the highway, replacing or improving six bridges and redesigning two intersections.
