Police blotter

Sept. 13 — While patrolling the first block of Haley Street, officers arrested a 58-year-old man for public intoxication after he fell down while being questioned. According to a police report, an assisting officer arrived on the scene who had cited the man earlier that same day for an alcohol-related offense. The officers discovered the man had given police a false name during the first contact to avoid being arrested for a $10,000 warrant.

Sept. 13, 5:30 p.m. — Officers arrested a 46-year-old man after seeing him exit a portable restroom in the 100 block of East Haley St. with two open beer cans. Police said the man stumbled as he walked up the sidewalk and was confused.

Sept. 15, 2 p.m. — Officers stopped a black Cadillac Escalade in the 900 block of Bath St. for not having a front license plate. The driver of the vehicle told police he didn’t have his license. As the man exited the vehicle to be questioned, a glass jar of hash oil fell onto the street. Officers searched the man and discovered on vicodin pill in his pocket and a second jar of hash oil in the SUV.

Sept. 15, 10:04 p.m.
— An officer on bike patrol contacted an 18-year-old man walking “suspiciously,” according to a police report, through the Westside Boys & Girls Club.
The man said he had no weapons, but while being patted down, said he had a glass pipe. The officer also found a small amount of methamphetamine in the man’s pocket.

Sept. 15, 9:35 p.m. — Police received complaints of a 23-year-old man challenging people to fight at Bath and Montecito Streets. When officers arrived on the scene, the man began walking away despite the officer’s yells of “Stop, police!” at least twice. Two officers attempted to subdue the man physically, but it took assistance from a third officer to get the man into custody. The man suffered minor cuts and was allegedly slurring his words.

Sept. 16, 8:31 a.m. — Officers were dispatched to a home in the 200 block of Arrellaga St. after residents reported a roommate was destroying and throwing items. When officers arrived, they found the 38-year-old suspect in the driveway naked. When the man noticed police, he began cursing. One officer tried to subdue the man by grabbing him around the waste, but the man pushed the officer in the chest and took his radio. The officer then attempted to punch the man, but the man ducked and tried to return the favor.
The officer then put some distance between himself and the suspect and tasered the man. Later, the man told the officer he had consumed psychedelic mushrooms. The police report said the man had a resting heart rate of 93 beats per minute and was sweating and delusional.

Sept. 16, 10 a.m. — A 59-year-old man was arrested for public intoxication after officers found him lying down in a parking lot in the 300 block of north Milpas St. with a 200 ml bottle of vodka in his hand. A police report said the man could not get up.

Sept. 17, 9 a.m. — Officers stopped a 58-year-old man for running a stop sign on his bicycle and discovered he had two warrants out for his arrest. Officers also found a half-empty bottle of Taaka Vodka in the man’s backpack. He was arrested for having an open container.
