Keeping with its theme of honoring some of the brightest stars in Hollywood, the Santa Barbara International Film Festival announced yesterday Penelope Cruz will receive its Outstanding Performer of the Year Award.
Cruz, who’s starred in such films as “Open Your Eyes,” “Volver,” “Live Flesh,” and “All About My Mother,” is being honored for her most recent performances in “Elegy” and “Vicky Cristina Barcelona.”

“There are few actresses who can today be described as international movie goddesses,” said Film Festival executive director Roger Durling. “And this year, with her exceptional work in “Elegy” and “Vicky Cristina Barcelona,” Penelope Cruz has earned that description.”
Past recipients of the Performer of the Year Award include Angelina Jolie, Helen Mirren, Heath Ledger, Kate Winslet and Charlize Theron.
The tribute to Cruz will take place on Jan. 31 at the Arlington Theatre. The festival, which is entering its 24th year, runs from Jan. 22 to Feb. 1 of next year. Tickets are currently on sale and available at the Lobero and Arlington Theatre box officers, or through www.sbfilmfestival.org.
