Teen stabbed in suspected gang-related attack

DAILY SOUND STAFF REPORT

Two men jumped from a car and stabbed a 15-year-old boy in Santa Barbara early yesterday morning during what police are considering a gang-related incident, authorities said.

Officers received a call from Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital reporting that the stabbing victim had been admitted with non-life-threatening wounds, Sgt. Lorenzo Duarte said.
The teenager told police he had left his home in the 1100 block of Cacique street to meet a friend at the corner of Cacique and Voluntario streets, authorities said.
“While at the intersection, he saw a small vehicle approach occupied by approximately five individuals,” Sgt. Duarte said in a news release. “The vehicle stopped and two subjects exited the vehicle and asked the juvenile where he was from.”
After shouting out a local gang name, the two suspects began to stab the 15-year-old boy, he said. The teenager suffered several stab wounds to his arms before the suspects fled the area.
A family friend transported the injured teen to the hospital. Sgt. Duarte said detectives are investigating the incident as gang-related and asked anyone with information to call 897-2339.
