Caltrans workers are continuing to prepare for a major construction project on Highway 101 south of Milpas Street this week.
Officials said lanes will be re-striped this week, causing temporary nighttime closures from Tuesday to Thursday. Lane and ramp closures will occur roughly between 8:30 p.m. and 7 a.m., and the highway will remain open during the work.
The project involves widening the freeway, reconstructing two intersections and building or repairing six bridges. The four-stage project is expected to last four years.
Workers are also continuing construction on Highway 154, where new turn lanes at Paradise Road and Vista Point west of the Cold Spring Arch Bridge will be installed this week. From Monday to Thursday, lane closures with traffic control are expected from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. On Friday, closures will occur between 8:30 a.m. and 2 p.m.
Motorists traveling along Highway 154 should expect delays up to 30 minutes and are encouraged to use Highway 101 if possible. A bicycle detour route using Stagecoach Road is also recommended. Construction on Highway 154 is expected to last through next summer.
