A suspect wanted on probation violations fled after being spotted by sheriff’s deputies near Hollister Avenue and Auhay Drive, leading to a manhunt yesterday afternoon.
After deputies recognized the man, identified as Christopher Anderson, 28, behind the wheel of a SUV, they attempted to pull him over just before 3 p.m., Sheriff’s Sgt. Alex Tipolt said. Shortly after fleeing from authorities, the man crashed near Faith Baptist Church at 4485 Hollister Ave.

“The suspect jumped out of the vehicle and fled to the rear of the church,” Sgt. Tipolt said, noting the site also houses a daycare facility.
After deputies secured the site and established a larger perimeter, authorities began searching for the suspect. Law enforcement also contacted the parents of children at the daycare and evacuated the building.
Sgt. Tipolt said approximately 25 officers searched for Anderson, along with a sheriff’s helicopter and police dogs.
“Obviously we would much rather find him, but we also have to make sure the area is secure and he isn’t in the area,” he said when contacted at 5:30 p.m.
After determining the suspect had barricaded himself in a house, authorities surrounded the location. After a long wait, the sheriff’s SWAT team took Anderson into custody without incident at 1:20 a.m., Sgt. Tipolt said.
Authorities said no injuries were reported in the traffic accident, which involved several vehicles. One car sustained front-end damage and had to be towed from the scene.
Sgt. Tipolt did not know how Anderson violated his terms of probation or why he is on probation.
